Hey, I’m JD.

A platforms-focused product designer with 10+ years experience building the foundations businesses run on, specializing in scaling cross-product systems across web and mobile apps.

Category-defining Platform Vision

Role: Co-lead designer | Timeline: 4 months to MVP | Outcomes: Reduced time on task, Reduced total sales SKUs

Summary

Docusign was launching Intelligent Agreement Management, a category-defining platform. I played a key role in shaping the vision and execution of Navigator, a core feature, along with data insights and AI strategy for the platform.

Deliverables

  • User research

  • Figma prototypes

  • AI framework documentation

Starting with AI Strategy

While AI was already part of DocuSign’s DNA, the LLM revolution demanded a unified, ethical, and cohesive product strategy. I co-led a 2-week sprint with a strategic task force alongside Content Design and Information Architecture leads to codify our AI Product Principles. By bridging the gap between technical capability and human-centered design, we created a foundational framework that now governs AI integration across the flagship product suite, ensuring a consistent and trustworthy user experience at scale.

AI is the engine of efficiency

Through smart extraction and suggestions, we’ve replaced manual steps with automation, making high-speed execution the new baseline.

Defining the Navigator: The AI Engine of IAM

By transforming fragmented contract data into actionable insights, I worked side by side with another lead designer to define the UX foundation for DocuSign’s pivot into Intelligent Agreement Management (IAM), partnering directly with the VP and CTO to secure the vision for this flagship initiative.

Mobile Navigation & Layout Patterns

Role: Lead designer | Timeline: 3 months (ongoing) | Outcomes: Reduced design and front-end engineering time up to 20%

Summary

Recognizing a growing friction between design and engineering, I led a comprehensive audit of the Dave app’s navigation. In partnership with our Front-End Engineering Manager, I developed a unified framework that balances creative flexibility with technical scalability, significantly reducing cognitive load for our users and decision fatigue for our teams.

Deliverables

  • Figma components & patterns

  • React Native library

  • Educational materials

Navigation Guidelines

I spearheaded the Dave Navigation & Layouts Framework, a cross-functional guide designed to align teams on common patterns and flows. By documenting everything from navigational pathways to specific header behaviors, I provided a source of truth that eliminated design debt and streamlined the engineering handoff for the majority of our mobile use cases.

Layout Variants & Examples

The layout variants offer the freedom to iterate and the structure to scale, balancing designer autonomy with a consistent user mental model.

Componentization & Pattern Documentation

Supported by design components and documentation, the primary output of this initiative was DaveScreen, a framework that evolved beyond simple templates into a structured governance model. By embedding design standards directly into the code, I was able to bridge the gap between design and engineering while quantitatively measuring the adoption and impact of our new layouts. I’ve not only noticed rapid adoption of these layouts, but also reduced front end engineering effort up to 20% per product team.

Multi-platform Notifications Model

Role: Co-lead designer | Timeline: 3 months to MVP | Outcomes: Reduced time-to-site for 911 officers

Summary

At Axon, customer interviews revealed the need for in-app notifications, as dispatch supervisors relied on direct messages for critical updates. I built a scalable system for 911 call takers, dispatchers, and officers, reducing response times for Axon's first major customer.

Deliverables

  • Usability research

  • Mobile and desktop Figma components

  • Design System contribution process

Multi-product Unification

Role: Lead designer | Timeline: 8 months to full rollout | Outcomes: Reduced error rate, Increased sales attach rate

Summary

Paylocity was losing deals due to an outdated Time Off Requests feature. I led research and design to unify six disparate products into a seamless experience, reducing cancellations and denied requests across 1.5M monthly requests.

Deliverables

  • User research

  • Figma prototypes

  • Design System components

  • Angular library

Platform Consistency Templates

Role: Co-lead designer | Timeline: 8 months | Outcomes: Reduced design and front-end engineering time

Summary

After auditing 250+ pages and 30+ user journeys across Docusign, we found customers needed more streamlined, predictable experiences. I created 8 meta patterns covering over 80% of the application, improving usability, ensuring consistency, and accelerating delivery for designers and engineers.

Deliverables

  • User research

  • Figma template & library

  • React Library

  • Educational materials
